It is important that people wanting to respond to disaster in an effort to help with animals be properly trained and only respond when requested to do so.  Sussex CART will be running training sessions through the year to give people hands on experience with animals and the types of duties they may be required to perform.  All volunteers are required to be NIMS compliant- meaning that they must take certain classes that familiarize them with the command system that will be used in a disaster.  These courses can be taken on line at:

All volunteers need to take

IS 100- introduction to incident command system

 IS  200- Incident command for single resources

IS 700- National Incident Management System (NIMS) and introduction

Volunteers who want to respond into the field will be required to take additional courses including :

IS 5- introduction to hazardous materials

IS 10- animals in disaster module a: awareness and preparedness

IS 11- animals in disaster module b: community planning

IS 111- livestock in disaster

Persons in a leadership role need to take the following in addition to the above:

IS 800- National Response Plan, an introduction

Additional in class training will also be required.
